Ashwin Calls for More Trust in Kuldeep Yadav

Ashwin Calls for More Trust in Kuldeep Yadav

Ravichandran Ashwin has lauded left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav while criticising the team’s management for not giving him more opportunities.

The former expressed concern about Kuldeep’s treatment by the Indian cricket team, especially after he was left out of the team that faced England in the first One-Day International at Edgbaston in Birmingham.

Following the return of Jasprit Bumrah and Kuldeep to the white-ball lineup, Ashwin emphasised the importance of better player management in preparation for the 2027 ICC World Cup, which will be contested in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.

Despite having a wristspinner in the roster, India chose spin all-rounders Axar Patel and Washington Sundar over Kuldeep in the opening ODI, which was played in Birmingham on Tuesday, July 14.

This exclusion, Ashwin believes, was a big error. The three-match ODI series between England and India will begin on Sunday, July 19, with the second match taking place in Cardiff on Thursday, July 16.

“In this Indian team, I’ll say it again. Both finger-spinning all-rounders will not be included in the 2027 World Cup squad. When Kuldeep is replaced and Harshit Rana is healthy and firing, he takes over as third seamer. Then it frees up a spot for Kuldeep,” Ashwin explained on his YouTube channel Ash Ki Baat.

Is India making a mistake by underutilising Kuldeep Yadav?

Ashwin stated that he was confident in the wristspinner’s ability to win games and that the current management was not doing enough to support him.

The former spinner stated that while Kuldeep got a legitimate chance owing to Varun Chakaravarthy’s absence, the squad needed to have more faith in his abilities and provide him regular opportunities before next year’s global spectacle.

He can bowl at any phase. “He has a good record in South Africa,” says Ashwin. “Kuldeep deserves more support.” Kuldeep Yadav’s bowling performance was crucial during the World Cup. He’s a match-winning spinner.

“This management has not provided adequate support for Kuldeep. They should give him greater support because he is a matchwinner. If he is to enter the 2027 World Cup with the proper mindset, he should be given more opportunities.

He should be given far greater confidence. “I would love to see Kuldeep Yadav as India’s frontline spinner,” he continued.

When their team won the first ODI by six wickets, Indian fans finally had something to celebrate. Three of India’s strongest players in the championship were Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, and Shubman Gill. After being winless in seven Twenty20 Internationals on their tour of the United Kingdom, the Men in Blue needed this win.

The second One-Day International will be played in Cardiff on Thursday, July 16. India seeks to rebound and force a decision at Lord’s.
