Ryan ten Doeschate Wants to Step Down From India Role
Assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate of Team India is reportedly considering leaving his position, citing broken promises as the primary reason.
According to the Hindustan Times, the former Netherlands all-rounder has already informed the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) of his ambitions and is considering possibilities abroad, including a return to the Indian Premier League.
According to the source, the BCCI would prefer to keep ten Doeschate over fielding coach T Dilip, whose performances have supposedly been criticised in the past year, despite the fact that no formal decision on his future has been made.
Ten Doeschate has apparently had successful discussions about a coaching role with an IPL side.
After working with head coach Gautam Gambhir at the Kolkata Knight Riders, the former all-rounder was asked to join India’s coaching team in 2024.
Ten Doeschate reportedly accepted to join Team India after being promised that he would eventually become the team’s specialist fielding coach. That shift has not occurred nearly two years later.
“The batting coach is Sitanshu Kotak, and Gauti (Gambhir) looks after the hitters. Morne (Morkel) is in charge of the pacers, while Sairaj (Bahutule) takes after the spinners. “When Tendo (his nickname) was brought on board, he was promised the position of fielding coach,” a senior BCCI insider told Hindustan Times.
Following the 2025 Champions Trophy, fielding coach T Dilip, assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, strength and conditioning coach Soham Desai, and masseur Arun Kanade were expected to leave the support staff.
Dilip received a one-year extension after gaining the endorsement of a senior Indian player, leaving ten Doeschate without a clear position in the support team. Dilip was scheduled to be removed along with Abhishek Nayar (assistant coach), Soham Desai (S&C coach), and Arun Kanade (masseur) after the 2025 Champions Trophy. However, Dilip received a solid reference from a senior player, and Dilip was given a one-year extension, whereas Tendo had no defined domain position. “He is a fantastic coach who hasn’t been used because Dilip is there,” the article continued.
The board is reportedly eager to keep the former Netherlands international, but his long-term future with Team India remains uncertain because IPL opportunities are emerging and his anticipated role has failed to materialise.
