Brook Praises Carse’s Return Before 2nd ODI vs India

Captain Harry Brook has welcomed the return of Brydon Carse to the One Day International (ODI) side ahead of England’s second game in the three-match series against India at Sophia Gardens in Cardiff on Thursday, July 16.

When Carse last played for the Three Lions, it was during the 2025–26 Ashes series. With 22 wickets at an average of 30.31, he was the team’s highest wicket-taker. However, the right-arm fast bowler suffered wrist and elbow ailments while representing Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League.

Brook is thrilled about Carse’s return because of his dedication to giving the squad his all. The fast bowler’s availability for selection beginning in the second ODI, which would greatly enhance England’s bowling performance, particularly in the middle overs, was also revealed by the captain.

“Brydon has been an excellent bowler for England in all formats. He’s back, which is fantastic, and he can be chosen for the remainder of the series. He always returns for more, is combative, and puts his heart on his sleeve.

“He would run through a brick wall for you, he never slows down, and he’s always around,” Harry Brook stated, as reported by the Independent.

It wasn’t until the T20 Blast earlier this month that the 30-year-old resumed playing professional cricket. In his three outings for Durham in the domestic T20 competition, Carse claimed five wickets. This included a 2 for 28 run against Derbyshire at Chester-le-Street.

If Carse had replaced Liam Dawson in the starting lineup, he would have given England another seam-bowling option. However, the Hampshire all-rounder showed off his batting prowess in the first ODI by hitting a vital 68 and partnering with Joe Root for 121 runs for the seventh wicket. Dawson was crucial in getting his team to a competitive score, despite the fact that England ultimately lost.

“I consider myself to be a versatile player. Although I’m more of a bowler on this squad, it was nice to participate and score. I’ve stated several times that I never imagined playing as much as I have in the past year given my age. I’m obviously thrilled to be participating again, and I intend to keep contributing. I’m not sure if I should demonstrate my abilities to others. I don’t think I need to prove anything to anyone since I’ve been playing for a long time and have played a lot of List A cricket. According to the Independent, Liam Dawson stated, “I think people know what I can do, and that’s probably not going to change.”
