Jonathan Trott named England Lions head coach after Andrew Flintoff

Jonathan Trott has been named England Lions head coach for their upcoming tours of the Caribbean, South Africa, and Sri Lanka, succeeding Andrew Flintoff in the position. He resigned down as Afghanistan’s head coach earlier this year and has since worked in short-term jobs with Ireland and Glamorgan.

Jonathan Trott recently took management of the Lions’ two T20 games against Sri Lanka.

After taking over as coach of the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League, Andrew Flintoff announced his resignation. He has already shown interest in becoming England’s white-ball coach, and his time with the Lions might provide vital experience toward that goal. Trott played for the Lions in 22 matches before making his England debut in 2009.

The Lions will hold training camps in October before heading on international tours. With preparations for next year’s World Cup in Africa begun, ECB performance director Ed Barney stated that 50-over cricket will receive a heavy focus.
