Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Ready After Recent Setbacks
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, a young Indian batsman, admits that the last few months have been a rollercoaster in his cricket career. In anticipation of India’s T20I series against Zimbabwe, which begins in Harare on Thursday, July 23, the 15-year-old expressed confidence and commitment to his process.
Following his IPL exploits, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi saw a meteoric rise and won his maiden India call-up for the T20I tours of England and Ireland.
Despite missing out on the two-match series against Ireland, the child cricketer made his debut in the second Twenty20 International against England in Manchester, becoming India’s youngest-ever international cricket player.
Despite appearing in the next three Twenty20 Internationals, the left-handed batsman failed to make an impact. After Sanju Samson returned to the starting lineup, he was benched for the fifth and final game. India eventually lost the series, 4-0.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi noted that despite a rocky start to his international career, he is willing to give the squad his all.
“Yes, there have been several ups and down in the last four months; it’s part of cricket [and] it will keep happening but I have to follow the process and give my 100% for the team,” Vaibhav Sooryavanshi told bcci.tv.
The young sensation acknowledged the challenges of dealing with setbacks at such a young age, but expressed gratitude to the coaching staff for their assistance in keeping him on track.He continued, “I’m feeling great, and I’m also confident.”
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will return to a site that holds special value for him. He was a key player in India’s successful Under-19 World Cup campaign in Zimbabwe earlier this year, scoring an incredible 175 runs off just 80 deliveries in the final against England to lead India to victory.
The young man expressed his desire to maximise his acquaintance with the environment in Harare and gain confidence from the encounter. “I’m playing on a ground where we won the Under-19 World Cup four months ago and made history [and] to return to the ground and play here will be an entirely different feeling… really enjoying it.”
I’m familiar with the pitches and conditions here because I played here during the Under-19 World Cup. So, I’ll attempt to use all I learned from that tournament to my current matches and play well.”
“I will back up my practice so far and try to back up my game… and whatever contribution I can make to the team, I will do so. I’ve played two matches on this pitch, and both went nicely. “I’ll try to carry it forward,” he said.
