Sanju Samson’s 4th T20I Comeback Bid Under Nayar’s Lens
Sanju Samson was benched from India’s starting lineup during the tour of the United Kingdom after scoring just six runs in three innings. In two of those three innings, Ireland was the opponent. With two Twenty20 Internationals left in the five-match series and India behind England 0-2, fans are demanding that Samson rejoin the squad.
When a broadcaster asked if Samson should replace the struggling Tilak Varma for India’s fourth Twenty20 International on Thursday, July 9 at the County Ground in Bristol, Nayar replied that the wicketkeeper-batter shouldn’t be brought back into the starting lineup in a way that would upset the team’s balance.
The former assistant coach of the Indian team claims that Sanju Samson has fared best when batting in the top three and that batting below the order won’t yield the required results.
“I firmly believe that you want to put Sanju Samson in a situation where he can thrive if you have to get him back in. You will now bat him at No. 4, 5, or 6 merely because you want to bring him in. He hasn’t done it frequently. India cited Nayar as stating, “It’s not something he’s been successful at.”
He has performed well when he has been opened or batted in the top three. Therefore, I think it’s best to stick with India’s current batting lineup and not play Sanju Samson if you aren’t giving him that place,” he continued.
Tilak has only scored one half-century in the five innings he has played in the UK during this trip. Furthermore, India’s new vice captain has batted out of position. He generally bats at number three, but he has had to bat lower in the order to make place for Ishan Kishan.
Nayar told the Indian squad’s management not to freak out. Instead, he recommended that they advise the hitters to properly assess the situation and modify their style of play. “They’ll have to reflect on it,” he said.
They have 190 in two innings, as stated by Gautam Gambhir, but they are batting first. Due to their inadequate condition assessment, they found chasing difficult. Nayar stated, “You don’t want to push the panic button because they haven’t found the right tempo to score runs.”
Changes should not be made only for the sake of making them. The management only needs to put Sanju Samson in a situation where he can thrive if he needs to join,” he continued.
