Litton Das Out of Zimbabwe ODIs With Hamstring Injury
Bangladesh has suffered a huge loss ahead of the next two ODIs against Zimbabwe, with wicketkeeper-batsman Litton Das ruled out for the remainder of the series owing to a hamstring injury.
Litton Das had already missed the first ODI on July 6 due to injury, and he was scheduled to return later in the series.
However, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has verified that the right-handed batter has not recovered in time and will continue his rehabilitation in Dhaka.
His absence is a big setback for Bangladesh, who are trailing 0-1 in the three-match series following a stunning loss in the first ODI. To address the void, the BCB has picked left-handed opener Parvez Hossain Emon as Litton Das substitute for the second and third ODIs in Harare on July 9 and 11, respectively.
Bangladesh team physio Bayjedul Islam Khan provided an update on Litton Das fitness, stating that the batter is still not ready to play competitively after passing a fitness assessment. He had a fitness test today, and the results were not adequate.
With back-to-back ODIs coming up, we don’t think he will make adequate improvement to play any part in the series,” Bangladesh physio Bayjedul Islam Khan was cited as saying by Cricinfo.
Bangladesh will now play the second ODI in Harare on Thursday, requiring a win to keep the three-match series alive. A defeat would give Zimbabwe the series, whilst a win for the visitors would force a decider in the final ODI on July 11.
The visitors came into this series full of confidence after winning the historic ODI series against Australia. They overcame the Kangaroos with a margin of 2-1 in a three-match series, marking their first-ever ODI series triumph over Australia. They are currently placed ninth in the ICC One-Day International team rankings.
