Devdutt Padikkal might have had to sit on the bench if Sai Sudharsan hadn’t been ruled out due to injury. However, the Karnataka batsman seized the opportunity with both hands and contributed significantly in both innings in India’s first Test against Sri Lanka at the Galle International Stadium. The five-day match ended on Wednesday, August 19, with India winning by 165 runs, marking the country’s 600th Test.

Padikkal, in his first Test since November 2024, delivered a dual-innings effort that piqued the interest of cricket fans. His approach mixed caution and aggression, demonstrating maturity and awareness of match scenarios. The left-hander’s ability to modify his batting to different periods of play was crucial in India’s dominating triumph.
