Dinesh Karthik Warns India After Galle Win
Despite the overwhelming victory, former India wicketkeeper Dinesh Karthik recognised a major problem for the squad going forward.
India defeated Sri Lanka by 165 runs in the first Test at Galle, gaining a 1-0 lead in the two-match series. The match ended on Wednesday, August 19, commemorating India’s 600th test participation.
Karthik showed India’s weakness to Sri Lankan fast bowling in the second innings, a notable result given the venue’s spin-friendly conditions. The former Kolkata Knight Riders captain was impressed by Sri Lanka’s pacers, who took six wickets in India’s second innings.
Pace bowling concerns in India’s second innings
India’s first-innings total of 462 put them in a strong position early in the game. When Sri Lanka reached 90 for 5 in their first innings, the trajectory indicated that the match could be completed in three days. However, the second-inning batting collapse against pace bowling shifted the momentum dramatically.
Suthar’s maiden 10-wicket haul in the second Test
Karthik also hailed left-arm spinner Manav Suthar’s outstanding performance in the contest.
Suthar took 10 wickets over two innings, four in the first and six for 55 in the second. Suthar, at the age of 24 years and 16 days, became the youngest Indian spinner to take ten wickets on away soil.
Suthar’s performance highlighted his ability to seize openings and keep control when the match required swift breakthroughs.
