Iyer Says England Results Brought Team Closer

Despite India’s T20I series losses to England and Ireland, Shreyas Iyer stated that many positive aspects emerged that would benefit the team moving forward.

Since Iyer took over as India’s T20I captain from Suryakumar Yadav, the Men in Blue have lost six of their past seven games, two against Ireland and four to England.

This week, the three-time T20 World Cup winners will face Zimbabwe in a three-match T20I series at the Harare Sports Club to make amends.

We learned what we need to work on as a team in the future, what sort of presence of mind, alertness, and adaptability we’ll need once we get onto the pitch’, Iyer said on the eve of Thursday’s first T20I.

The 31-year-old stated that it is critical that Indian players adjust to the conditions, especially those visiting Zimbabwe for the first time.

“Some of us are playing here for the first time, so the quicker we adapt, the better results we will get,” the Mumbai hitter added.

Iyer stated that the disappointing performances in England and Ireland have brought his team closer together, and he is confident in their ability to recover. We’ve had a lot of discussions about how we’re going to play as a team in the future, particularly against Zimbabwe right now.

We’ve played three series outside of India, which has provided us with valuable exposure because such opportunities are rare. This is a difficult phase, and the sooner you get through it, the better you will become as a team, and the results will eventually follow,” Iyer stated.

Shreyas Iyer believes that when you are free of fear, you can reach your full potential.

Shreyas Iyer explained how India’s prospects could suffer from a fear of failure. Furthermore, he instructed his players to focus on playing good cricket and working together rather than listening to outside noise.

“I don’t think they should be afraid of failure because when you have such thoughts in the back of your mind, you play to save yourself.” When you are free of fear, you can unleash your full potential.

We don’t have to think about what others are saying outside. We need to stay in the present. The more we play good cricket and work as a unit, the better the team will be,” Iyer stated.
