Imran Khan to Move to Hospital as Pakistan Supreme Court Issues Big Order
In a major event, Pakistan’s Supreme Court on Monday ordered the Rawalpindi jail to admit former Prime Minister and World Cup-winning captain Imran Khan to the hospital due to his failing health.
In April 2022, the 72-year-old was dismissed from his job as Pakistan’s Prime Minister. He was later imprisoned in August 2023 after being convicted in many high-profile legal and corruption cases.
However, following repeated pleadings from his family and PTI (Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf) activists, the top Pakistani court ruled in Imran’s favour.

The Supreme Court has ordered Imran Khan’s transfer from Rawalpindi prison to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad within 48 hours, as reported by Reuters.
The former cricketer’s spokesperson on X, Naeem Haider Panjutha, has disclosed that he will be monitored by a panel of specialist doctors until further notice. Furthermore, one of his sisters, Dr. Uzma Khanum, will be permitted to be near the 72-year-old.
Imran lost sight in his right eye while in prison and has been visiting eye doctors since late January, as previously reported.
A day after the SC ordered Imran’s relocation to a facility in the country’s capital, the Rawalpindi jail authorities presented a report to the top court about his eyesight, indicating it is “almost normal”.As a result, remarkable improvement in his eye has been observed, and his vision has restored to nearly normal,” according to the jail authorities, as reported by NDTV World.
Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, and four other Indians sign a petition demanding Imran Khan’s release.
Earlier in February, roughly 14 former renowned cricketers, including Indian legends Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, submitted a petition asking Imran Khan’s release from prison for better treatment due to worsening health.
Aside from the 14 former cricketers, former Indian captain Mohammad Azharuddin and ex-batsman Ajay Jadeja expressed their sentiments via social media. Pakistan’s Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis, and Shoaib Akhtar have also spoken about it.
From cricket pitch to political battleground: Imran Khan’s journey
Imran Khan, regarded as one of the greatest all-rounders of all time and Pakistan’s sole World Cup-winning captain, had a remarkable career for his country, appearing in 88 Test matches and 175 One-Day Internationals.
During his two-decade international career, he scored 7516 runs and claimed 544 wickets, including seven centuries, 37 fifties, and 24 five-wicket hauls.
Under his clever guidance, Pakistan pulled off one of the greatest heists at the 1992 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand, winning the title against all odds.
After his playing career ended, the great cricketer became involved in social work and later politics.
Imran founded the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital and Research Center in 1994 to honour his loving mother, who died from cancer. Meanwhile, he launched his political party, PTI, in 1996 before becoming Prime Minister in 2018.
