Outrage erupts on social media over India-Pakistan Asia Cup 2025 match
Previously, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) halted India’s participation in the competition, bringing the Asia Cup 2025 to the brink of cancellation. According to reports, the board was awaiting authorisation from the Indian government before making a decision, while the ACC looked into other locations to keep the event on track.
Tensions between India and Pakistan have spilt over into the cricket world following the recent Pahalgam incident, casting a pall on the upcoming World Championship of Legends (WCL) 2025. The highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan Champions was cancelled last week after Indian players withdrew in protest.
Amidst the debate, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) stunned everyone by publishing the official Asia Cup schedule on Saturday, July 26. The most notable element was the scheduling of a high-stakes match between India and Pakistan on September 14, which will be played in the UAE, the tournament’s host nation. The announcement generated significant criticism on social media, with many urging the BCCI to boycott the Asia Cup.
Despite initial doubts, the Asia Cup 2025 is now scheduled to take place as planned.
The event will be contested in the T20 format, as preparation for the ICC T20 World Cup in 2026. For the first time in history, the Asia Cup will include eight teams.
The eight competing teams were divided into two groups. Group A is made up of India, Pakistan, Oman, and the UAE, while Group B includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong. The top two teams from each group will advance to the Super Four stage, which will pit all qualifying teams against one another. The top two teams from the Super Four will then advance to the final.
The competition is slated to begin on September 9 and end with the final on September 28. Afghanistan will face Hong Kong in the opening match.
