Dinesh Karthik Snubs Gambhir’s Favourite

Dinesh Karthik Snubs Gambhir’s Favourite

Dinesh Karthik, the former KKR captain and current RCB coach, selected India’s World Cup roster in difficult circumstances. To everyone’s surprise, he did not prefer one of Gambhir’s personal faves from the present squad of players.

India’s World Cup squad for the 2019 edition will be a hot topic in the coming months. The Men in Blue were inches away from winning the 50-over World Cup at home last time in 2023, so it would be intriguing to watch if Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, two of the greatest in the game in this format, will be present.

At the same time, worries about Gautam Gambhir’s future emerge. India’s current head coach previously struggled in Tests, and now, to make matters worse, India has had poor white-ball performances in Ireland and England.

Harshit Rana was quickly promoted to India’s international squad under Gambhir. Gautam Gambhir, who helped KKR win the IPL 2024 title, paid careful attention to Rana while serving as a mentor for the Purple and Gold Brigade.

Following that, Harshit Rana represented India in all three formats in a relatively short period of time, which is extremely unique. Despite his strong ODI and T20I numbers, his Test career did not go as planned.

Karthik preferred Mohammed Shami over Rana, who can also bat at No. 8 in ODIs. He did not even include Arshdeep Singh in India’s ODI World Cup squad.

To replace Arshdeep, Karthik retained Bhuvneshwar Kumar, a veteran who has made waves in the IPL over the last several years.

In another stunning occurrence, Karthik disregarded Shivam Dube, who has recently performed admirably with the ball in hand in the absence of Hardik Pandya.

In his place, he kept Nitish Kumar Reddy, with Hardik joining India’s World Cup squad. Despite Reddy’s extensive history of injury worries, Dinesh Karthik expressed confidence in him to do well in the World Cup 2027 if given the opportunity.

Unsurprisingly, Dinesh Karthik retained Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma in India’s World Cup roster. Shubman Gill has been named captain, and Yashasvi Jaiswal, Ishan Kishan, Shreyas Iyer, and KL Rahul are the other designated batting options.

Rahul and Kishan are also capable wicketkeepers.

Dinesh Karthik kept Kuldeep Yadav as the only specialist spinner in India’s World Cup roster. Axar Patel has also appeared as a spin bowling all-rounder.

For those who are unaware, the World Cup 2027 will be predominantly staged in South Africa, with Zimbabwe and Namibia acting as co-hosts. The event will return to Africa after 24 years, with 14 teams set to compete in a fresh new format, beginning on October 4 and lasting until November 21.
