Alzarri Joseph unavailable after declining selection

Cricket West Indies announced a 15-member roster for the next Test series against Pakistan, stating that Alzarri Joseph was unavailable due to personal reasons.

However, head coach Daren Sammy stated that the fast bowler denied selection. Yeah, it’s a huge loss. Mr. Joseph has declined selection.

That’s the truth of the matter,” Sammy stated during a press conference two days before the first Test at Tarouba’s Brian Lara Stadium. “He was selected. I mean, he’s coming back from an injury. And for various reasons, he has declined the selection.”

Joseph took six wickets in two Tests against Sri Lanka in June-July. He then starred in the five-ODI series against New Zealand, taking 4 for 41 in the first game. Sammy remarked, “That is a decision that is way above my head.”

“I leave that with the directors to come up with whatever solutions where contracted players get to decline selection.”

Pakistan’s fast-bowling lineup includes Shamar Joseph, Kemar Roach, Jayden Seales, Justin Greaves, and Keemo Paul. Spin possibilities include Jomel Warrican, Joshua Bishop, and skipper Roston Chase.

What I can tell you is that we have witnessed a bowling line-up capable of taking 20 wickets. When asked if the West Indies had the firepower to face Pakistan, Sammy replied, “That’s the first step towards winning Test matches.”

We witnessed it in New Zealand. We witnessed that during the Australia series. We matched Australia with the ball. We also matched New Zealand with the ball. And the hitters’ confidence and hard work paid off in the Test series against Sri Lanka.

“There’s more consistency coming through. “So, if we match these two batters in terms of runs scored, we know we have a bowling line-up capable of taking 20 wickets and helping us win Test matches.

The first Test begins on Saturday, and the second on August 2 in Port of Spain.
