Sourav Ganguly Files Complaint After Death Threat

Sourav Ganguly Files Complaint After Death Threat

After getting many death threats over the preceding six months, former India captain Sourav Ganguly and his wife Dona filed a formal written complaint with the Thakurpukur Police Station in Kolkata.

The most recent threatening letter was opened at the Bengal Cricket President’s office on Monday, August 10, 2026, the same day as the complaint was submitted.

The most recent letter, written fully in English, had specific threats to harm Sourav Ganguly and his family.

The most recent letter’s increasingly menacing tone prompted the family to submit a formal complaint with police enforcement, although prior mail in the series had been dismissed as correspondence from devoted supporters.

Arun Kumar, a Belgharia resident, was identified as the sender of all letters delivered to the Sourav Ganguly residence by courier. A Truecaller search returned the same identity, and investigators were able to locate a phone number listed in the letter.

The police are currently examining if the letters were written by the real Arun Kumar or if someone else used his identity unlawfully to convey the threats.

What have the government and police done in response to the complaint?

Police confirmed that a formal investigation is underway following the complaint’s registration. Officers are focusing on identifying the sender and tracking the origin of threatening letters sent to Ganguly, a well-known public figure.

However, today we received two letters addressed to Mr. Sourav Ganguly and Mrs. Dona Sourav Ganguly , in which the sender not only made hateful remarks about Mr. Ganguly, but also issued serious threats to his and Mrs. Dona Sourav Ganguly lives and safety, as well as the people who work [with/for] him.

“The nature of the threats in the letters has raised major concerns among us. Since the letters have now evolved from hate/derogatory communication to specific threats to life and personal safety, we believe that the matter demands immediate police engagement and investigation,” according to the complaint statement.

The state government’s security department was notified and asked to take urgent action. Given the repeated nature of the attacks, the agency is currently assessing whether Sourav Ganguly current security systems should be strengthened. At this point, no further security procedures have been made public.

Authorities have initiated an investigation to safeguard Mr. Sourav Ganguly and his family’s safety. They informed Ganguly’s PA that they are taking all necessary precautions.

Ganguly was India’s captain before becoming the head of the Board of Control for Cricket in India, making him one of the country’s best-known cricket administrators. The most recent threatening letter was discovered on August 10, 2026, while he was the president of Bengal Cricket.
