Sophie Ecclestone Breaks England Wicket Record
Sophie Ecclestone became England Women’s all-time highest wicket-taker across formats on Friday, July 10, during the historic Lord’s Test match against India.
The spinner was the top bowler in the first innings of the inaugural Women’s Test at the renowned location in London, dismissing the visitors for 285 with 3 for 68. By doing this, the 27-year-old overtook veteran fast bowler Katherine Sciver-Brunt to claim the most wickets for her nation.
After making her debut for her nation in July 2016, Sophie Ecclestone just needed one wicket to pass the well-known bowler, who was recently given an OBE for her achievements to cricket. She accomplished this by dismissing Sayali Satghare near the end of the innings. She would then take two more wickets to end the Indian innings.
Sophie Ecclestone has currently claimed 43 wickets in Test matches, 154 in Twenty20 Internationals, and 141 in One Day Internationals (ODIs). In the shortest format of the game, she is now England’s highest wicket-taker. She is still 29 wickets behind Sciver-Brunt even if she is now second in ODI wickets.

Sophie Ecclestone has been one of England’s best bowlers for a number of years.
The left-arm spinner collected 10 wickets at an economy rate of 6.00 when the Lionesses finished as runners-up in the recently concluded 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup, losing to Australia in the final at Lord’s.
Despite the recent decline in the number of Women’s Test matches, Sophie Ecclestone has succeeded in joining a select group of players. As of right now, the England spinner is the second-youngest female bowler to claim ten wickets in a Test match. In 2023, at Trent Bridge in Nottingham, she took 10 for 192 against Australia at the tender age of 24 years and 47 days.
