Shoriful Islam Won’t Play County Cricket After BCB Refuses NOC

Bangladesh Cricket Board officials confirmed on Tuesday that fast bowler Shoriful Islam had been rejected a No Objection Certificate (NOC) for a stay with Kent in the County Championship.

According to Cricbuzz, Shoriful Islam was supposed to join Hasan Mahmud in the Kent dressing room to play for the county, but the board chose not to release him since it would have jeopardised his international commitment.

“Shoriful Islam was not given a NOC due to his workload and upcoming international assignments, as we have five Tests, seven T20s, and six ODIs in the next three months,” Shahriar Nafees, BCB cricket operations in-charge, told Cricbuzz.

“Shoriful Islam is the type of player who can play any format.

He also recently recovered from a hamstring ailment. So, if we give him a NOC for four county matches, the amount of pressure that will put on his body, we’re worried he won’t be fully fit for all those (international) matches,” he said.

“That’s why the team management and medical department feel it’s more important for him to train rather than play, and be fit and ready for the international matches,” he stated.

Nafees also stated that they have granted permission to another pacer, Khaled Ahmed, to participate in the county after being approached by Kent.

“Khaled was given a NOC for Kent as he is fully fit and hasn’t played too many matches in the recent past,” he stated.
