Shanto Confident Bangladesh Can Perform in Any Conditions
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto voiced faith in his team’s capacity to compete under any conditions as the Tigers prepare for the second Test against Australia in Mackay.
Bangladesh leads the two-match series 1-0 after a historic nine-wicket triumph in Darwin on August 13-16, 2026, their first Test win in Australia.
The second Test begins on Saturday, August 22, at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay and will run until August 26, 2026.
Shanto spoke to the media prior of the match. The Bangladesh captain underlined that his team’s focus remains on properly executing their strategy rather than looking too far ahead.
He emphasised that the most essential factor is how well the team plays each day and session, and that if they follow the process correctly, the results would come naturally.
Shanto commented on his team’s strategy for the series, highlighting the need of focusing on immediate performance rather than distant results. He added that the team’s strategy is centred on constantly performing the proper processes throughout the day and session.
Focus on the process rather than the future
The Bangladesh players have acclimated well during their two days of practice in Mackay. Shanto stated that veteran members of the squad have been advising younger players on the necessity of following the correct procedures in the changing room. He emphasised that the team should continue to play and compete, as not doing so would prevent them from improving and demonstrating their abilities in international cricket.
