Shan Masood Ruled Out of 2nd Test, England Tour in Doubt
Shan Masood, Pakistan’s batsman, will miss the second Test against the West Indies, which begins on Sunday, August 2, at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago, due to a finger injury. After winning the first Test by 90 runs, the hosts are already leading 1-0 in the series.
Shan Masood had an outstanding performance in the first Test, scoring 109 runs in the first innings—the match’s only individual century—despite the Men in Green’s defeat.
However, Jayden Seales hit the left-handed batter on the finger during his amazing knock. When his team was struggling in the second inning, he came out to bat at number eight, but only scored three runs. He did not take the pitch on the fourth morning.
However, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) informed that Masood will not be selected for the second Test while the travelling medical staff treats his broken finger after scans and other evaluations.
“Pakistan Test batter Shan Masood has been ruled out of the second Test against the West Indies after sustaining an injury to the index finger of his left hand during the first Test at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad.
Shan Masood is presently receiving treatment from the Pakistan team medical panel after completing a scan and clinical examination, according to an official PCB release.
Shan Masood selection for the opener Test match against England at Headingley, Leeds, is also in question due to the unlucky timing of the injury.
The former Pakistan captain knows the area well, having played for Yorkshire on the domestic circuit for two seasons. But rather of going home, he will go with the rest of the gang.
“His availability for the first Test against England, which starts on August 19 at Leeds, will be determined by his rehabilitation and clinical progress. In the meantime, he will remain with the team,” the statement read.
Following a brief tour of the Caribbean, Pakistan will go to England for a three-match series for the first time in almost six years.
