Ramiz Raja Opens Up on Imran Khan’s Struggles During Detention
Ramiz Raja, former head of the Pakistan Cricket Board, has offered an update on the health and status of Imran Khan, the former Pakistan captain who has been detained. During a recent appearance on a YouTube show, Raja discussed Khan’s current condition, providing insight into how the ex-captain is dealing with his absence from public life.
During an episode of The Overlap Cricket’s Stick to Cricket, Alastair Cook asked Raja if Imran Khan was physically healthy. This query came just one day after 22 former international cricket captains urged Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to improve Khan’s treatment and medical care.
Ramiz Raja states that his recent eye condition has been addressed.
Ramiz Raja also addressed the new health concerns raised about Khan. The former Pakistan captain had an eye ailment around a week before Raja’s comments, but Raja said it had been resolved.
Ramiz Raja remarks reflected the greater worldwide concern for Khan’s well-being while his captivity.
The 22 former cricket captains who signed the appeal included notable figures such as Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, Dilip Vengsarkar, Steve Waugh, Adam Gilchrist, Nasser Hussain, Andrew Strauss, Michael Atherton, Alastair Cook, Greg Chappell, Ian Chappell, Michael Brearley, Michael Gatting, David Gower, Clive Lloyd, Allan Border, Arjuna Ranatunga, Lee Germon, Kim Hughes, Belinda Clark, Alex Blackwell and John Wright.
Their joint petition raised worries regarding Khan’s treatment and access to appropriate medical care.
Earlier in August, Pakistan’s Supreme Court ordered Khan’s relocation to a hospital for assessment by a medical board consisting of his personal physicians and his sister, Dr. Uzma Khan. The Court also reinstated the weekly family visits.
Khan, however, only spent a few hours in the hospital. He was assessed by a state-appointed team rather than the Court-appointed board, certified medically fit, and sent to Adiala Jail before the board’s job could be completed.
