Mohammad Amir Faces PSL Exit?
Mohammad Amir, a former Pakistan bowler, relocated to England a few years ago and just received British citizenship. However, this could cause issues for the fast bowler and complicate his participation in the PSL 2027 season.
Amir previously played in the PSL as a local player, but his situation has changed, and the PSL will have to accommodate him as an overseas player in the forthcoming PSL 2027.
If Mohammad Amir enters the PSL again, he will be treated as a foreign player rather than a local star. This means that teams will have to use one of their overseas slots to add him to their PSL 2027 roster.
Amir played for Rawalpindi last season and was bought for PKR 5.4 crores in the PSL auction. He was one of the squad’s best earners, but now that Amir is a British citizen, the equation has changed for both him and the team.
He was awarded a two-year deal covering the 2026 and 2027 seasons, however it was given to him based on his status as a local player rather than an overseas star.

According to the PSL rules and regulations, each team can keep up to seven players for PSL 12, with the remaining players going directly into the auction pool.
The PSL’s governing body has not commented officially on Amir’s contract status, but under to the regulations, Rawalpindiz cannot keep the former Pakistan bowler in the local players category.
Either his current contract needs to be modified, or he may be released. If the team does not want to release Mohammad Amir, they may have to use an overseas slot to keep him for the PSL 2027 season.
PSL 2027 could be Mohammad Amir final season in the tournament, however neither the player, PSL, nor PCB have confirmed the claims.
Why Rawalpindi may not retain Mohammad Amir for PSL 2027
To keep him, the franchise would have to give up an overseas berth, which might not be a viable choice. Furthermore, the left-arm pacer may only play one more season in the league, and keeping him in an overseas role for only one season could be risky.
Furthermore, his recent performances have fallen short of expectations, and Rawalpindi may be tempted to let him go. Amir has been expensive in the ongoing The Hundred, and after five matches, he has only five wickets due to the scarcity of wickets.
Even in the English local tournament (Vitality T20 Blast), the 34-year-old took only six wickets in seven matches, as batters found him easy to handle.
While his economy rate has been good in both The Hundred and the Vitality Blast, Amir’s wickets have dried up as a lead pacer, and he has failed to deliver with the ball.
As a result, his PSL side may be keen in retaining someone who can guarantee wickets during the power play.
