A furious discussion between Mitchell Starc and Mehidy Hasan Miraz on Day 2 of Australia’s first Test against Bangladesh in Darwin on August 14, 2026, gained notice for the intensity of the situation on the pitch. The confrontation occurred during Bangladesh’s 103rd over, as Starc bowled his 21st over. Mehidy Hasan  struck the delivery toward point and tried a single, but the issue worsened when he appeared to run thru the pitch’s protected zone.

The match itself had been competitive, with Bangladesh taking a significant lead. Australia was bowled out for 198 on Day 1, while Bangladesh scored 426 runs in their first innings, taking a 228-run advantage. By the close of Day 3, Australia had scored 161 for 4 wickets in their second innings, leaving the game evenly balanced.

Bangladesh’s first-innings lead of 228 runs versus Australia was a notable feat. The 228-run lead was only the second time Australia had conceded a first-innings lead of more than 150 runs to Bangladesh, the first coming in 2006 when Bangladesh led by 158 runs.
