Kuldeep Yadav Admits India Snub ‘Definitely’ Hurts

Kuldeep Yadav has been left out of India’s Test team for the Sri Lanka series, as well as the T20I squad for the Afghanistan series and the Asian Games, which are both set for September 2026.

The left-arm spinner also did not take part in India’s five-Test tour of England in 2025. These exclusions have forced the 31-year-old to consider the difficulties of being sidelined in international cricket.

Kuldeep spoke in an interview about the emotional toll of not being selected. He recognized that squad decisions frequently involve team combinations and strategic concerns that are beyond individual control.

The spinner has been playing county cricket for Yorkshire on a short-term contract signed in July, which has been disrupted by India’s Test series in Sri Lanka and Yorkshire’s County Championship loss to Surrey at The Oval.

County Cricket Experience and Development

Despite recent losses, the spinner expressed optimism about future chances. He voiced dissatisfaction at losing opportunities to play in matches while on the team, noting that management choices can occasionally prohibit players from receiving playing time even when they are selected.

Kuldeep confessed that his experience on the previous year’s England tour had been frustrating, since he was not given the opportunity to participate in any of the five Test matches.

Kuldeep’s county spell with Yorkshire has given him significant experience in English conditions.

He recently took his maiden 10-wicket haul in first-class cricket, helping Yorkshire overcome Essex by an innings and 106 runs at Headingley. His match total of 10-120, which included 4-70 in the first innings and 6-50 in the second, earned him the County Championship Player of the Round title.

The spinner emphasized the value of county cricket in developing players, particularly spinners and hitters who require experience to various playing situations. He emphasized how English county cricket provides distinct obstacles that help players prepare for international cricket in unexpected settings.

Kuldeep emphasized how the variation of pitches and weather conditions in different parts of England provide significant learning opportunities.

The left-arm spinner expounded on the unique challenges of English county cricket, highlighting the variations in pitch conditions across the country. He noted how pitches fluctuate substantially based on geographical location, with certain regions providing drier wickets and others presenting distinct qualities. Kuldeep emphasized that exposure to these diverse conditions allows spinners and other players to improve their skills and adapt to unfamiliar playing surfaces.
