Khaled Mahmud appointed BCB consultant for age-group cricket
Khaled Mahmud, Bangladesh’s former captain, has returned to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) as an age-group cricket consultant. Under a two-year deal, the 54-year-old will oversee the development of young cricketers across the country’s grassroots system.
Mahmud has previously held several positions at the BCB, including head of the Game Development Committee. His return coincides with the board’s efforts to harness his extensive coaching and developmental experience to strengthen the age-group framework.
Khaled Mahmud, who has been working with age-level cricket alongside BCB president Tamim Iqbal, expressed excitement to be returning to his passion. Cricbuzz cited Mahmud as stating, “I’ve been given a two-year deal.”
After dedicating a significant portion of his coaching career to player development, the former all-rounder stated, “Working with young cricketers has always been close to my heart.”
“This is job that I enjoy doing. I have spent the majority of my coaching career in development and age-group cricket. During his tenure as chairman of the BCB development committee, he focused on developing cricketers at the youth level, and the team also won the Youth World Cup.
After quitting the board, I generally worked as a coach for age-group cricketers. The new role is ideal for me. “I hope I can do something good in these two years,” he remarked.
Khaled Mahmud, who previously served on the board, played an important role in Bangladesh’s age-group arrangement. When Bangladesh won their first ICC Under-19 World Cup in South Africa in 2020, he led the BCB’s Game Development Unit.
According to reports, the BCB management viewed his return as a key step toward strengthening the country’s cricketing pipeline. Because of his experience fostering fresh talent, board members believe Mahmud is an ideal candidate to coach the next generation of Bangladeshi cricketers.
In addition to his role in player development, Khaled Mahmud led the Bangladesh men’s national team in several ICC tournaments during the previous BCB administration.
Khaled Mahmud’s cricket career
Khaled Mahmud played for Bangladesh in the early years of their international career, where he established himself as a reliable all-rounder. He played in 77 One-Day Internationals and 12 Tests, scoring important runs with the bat and claiming 13 Test and 67 ODI wickets.
