Meerut Mavericks defeated Lucknow Falcons in the first week of the UP T20 League 2026 at the Ekana Cricket Stadium on Wednesday, August 19. Meerut’s tournament winning streak now stands at three matches. Rinku Singh, the Mavericks’ captain, was instrumental in the chase with a match-winning undefeated knock that came in handy when play was halted by rain.

Singh’s undefeated 55 came off 24 deliveries, including two fours and six sixes. Meerut were chasing 184 and faced a major struggle when rain fell in the 17th over.
In that rain-soaked over, bowled by Navneet Kumar, Singh hit 26 runs off five deliveries to keep the chase going. His strong hitting propelled Mavericks to 154 for 6 in 16.5 overs, five runs ahead of the DLS par score, when heavy rain suspended play.

Kartik Tyagi also discussed the significance of playing under Singh’s captaincy. The Mavericks bowler underlined Singh’s philosophy of dominating rather than simply winning, which has shaped the team’s strategy throughout the game.
Singh’s T20 International record indicates his progress as a top-level finisher. He had scored 702 runs in 48 T20 Internationals, an average of 37 and a strike rate of 156, displaying his ability to accelerate under pressure situations.
His performances in domestic T20 tournaments have cemented his status as a match-winner in the bottom middle order.
Singh most recently played for India on their tour of Zimbabwe last month. The left-handed batter scored 37 runs in two innings, with a strike rate of 168.18.
He is scheduled to return to action for the Men in Blue in a three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in September at Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium.
