Jake Weatherald Signs County Championship Deal with Warwickshire for 2027
Jake Weatherald has signed a County Championship contract with Warwickshire for the 2027 season. The club confirmed the agreement with the 31-year-old on August 19. He will be playing at Edgbaston for the initial portion of the season.
Prior to the agreement, Weatherald encountered numerous obstacles on the international stage. He was dismissed from Australia’s Test team following his performance of 0 and 23 in an unexpected loss to Bangladesh.
His current Test average from six outings is 20.36. Matt Renshaw will take his place as the opening batsman in the second Test in Mackay, playing opposite Travis Head.
Weatherald’s county credentials are noteworthy upon his arrival at Edgbaston.
He scored 483 runs at an average of 60.37 in nine innings for Leicestershire in 2026. “I am delighted to be joining Warwickshire for the 2027 season.” Edgbaston is one of the most renowned cricket grounds in the world, and I was unable to resist the chance to represent such a distinguished county.

In an official statement, Weatherald expressed his enthusiasm for the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to Warwickshire’s talented squad and proud history.
He also mentioned that “Jake is a player we have admired for a long time.” In the statement, Warwickshire Director of Cricket James Thomas stated, “He is a proven performer who has scored heavily at the highest level and gives us additional strength at the top of the order.”
Another player the team is hoping to re-sign for the upcoming season is Beau Webster, an all-arounder who referred to the club as his “second home” after his initial visit earlier this year.
Will Young of New Zealand and Manav Suthar, an Indian left-arm spinner who will join the team after the current Test series in Sri Lanka, are their overseas additions for the remainder of the 2026 County Championship season. Sussex, who are presently third in Division One, will be their opponent at Edgbaston on August 20.
