Heinrich Klaasen Says Retirement Allowed Him to Enjoy Cricket Again
Heinrich Klaasen, a South African batsman, has underlined the benefits of abandoning international cricket, highlighting how it has afforded him more freedom between tournament duties.
Heinrich Klaasen, announced his retirement from international cricket on June 2, 2025, after a seven-year career that included 58 T20Is, 60 ODIs, and four Tests. In March 2025, he made his final appearance for his country in the Champions Trophy semifinals against New Zealand in Lahore.
Klaasen has focused solely on domestic and franchise cricket since exiting international service. Withdrawing from international cricket provided him with the opportunity to manage his schedule and recover between large tournaments, which he did not have earlier.
For the majority of these competitions, I have approximately a month, a month and a half, or two months free between them. So it allows me ample time to simply reset, take everything in, focus on what needs to be worked on, and prepare my body for the next tournament.” Klaasen commented on JioStar.

Heinrich Klaasen, continued success in franchise cricket was highlighted in the IPL 2026, where he scored 624 runs in 15 innings, including six fifties. In The Hundred 2026, he scored 166 runs in 7 innings with an average of 23.71 and a strike rate of 182.41, including two fifties. On Sunday, August 16, 2026, his Manchester Super Giants team faced the Trent Rockets in the Men’s Hundred Final.
Heinrich Klaasen, acknowledged that playing less cricket will make it tough to maintain his current level of performance. After a period of minimal trophy success, he stated that winning trophies remains a primary priority for both his club and himself.
It’s been a lean run for trophies, so my personal ambition is to get into and get the team into situations to win trophies. Then, obviously, playing less cricket currently presents a significant issue in maintaining the standard of cricket.
I had a wonderful IPL (624 runs in 15 innings with six fifties); I’ve had a nice start to The Hundred; it was a little quiet in the middle, but the key was to get some runs under my belt and keep my standard up,” Klaasen explained.
