Devdutt Padikkal Earns Praise from Deep Dasgupta After Century

During the practice match at Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground, Devdutt Padikkal, who was chosen as a like-for-like replacement for the injured Sai Sudharsan, left an impression. Sudharsan was unable to play due to an injury and spent time recovering at Bengaluru’s BCCI Center of Excellence.

India’s warm-up match against SLC XI in Colombo was an important prelude to the first Test, which will commence on August 15 in Galle.

Prior to the real Test series, the warm-up match provided the Indian squad with valuable match scenarios and opportunities to develop rhythm. Devdutt Padikkal scored a century on the second day of the game, demonstrating his readiness for the upcoming two-match Test series as part of the 15-man squad.

So that is a major plus, and as a result, Devdutt Padikkal may now come out with confidence. It is now guaranteed that he will play,” Dasgupta wrote on his YouTube page.

The performance of Devdutt Padikkal as Sudharsan’s replacement

According to the former Indian wicketkeeper, the practice match was an important phase in the team’s final preparations. Dasgupta noted that India fielded for an extended period of time during the warm-up game, giving the bowling unit experience and rhythm against superior opponents.

The SLC XI, which included former Sri Lankan players, put up a terrific bowling exhibition, providing good practice for the Indian team. Before the actual Test series began, this level of play was used to test tactics and abilities.

“It was wonderful to see that India put in 90 overs in the field, because apart from batting and bowling, it is also necessary to get acclimated to staying on the ground all day, especially when you are playing red-ball cricket after such a long time. From that standpoint, I believe there are numerous benefits,” Dasgupta stated.

Opportunities for squad practice and games.

Dasgupta highlighted that almost every player received opportunities to bat and bowl during games, ensuring that the team was prepared for the difficulties ahead.

The warm-up match successfully boosted team confidence and fitness ahead of the two-match Test series in Galle. Also, Sri Lanka Cricket has had a strong team. There is sometimes concern about the type of team you will face in a warm-up match, such as a team against whom playing will be pointless.

However, such is not the case here. It was a strong bowling outfit, as many of the players had already represented Sri Lanka. Overall, it was a successful excursion; India got what they wanted,” Dasgupta said.
