CSK Join Race for Hardik Pandya Trade

According to reports, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have entered the competition to recruit Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya prior to IPL 2027, perhaps creating one of the greatest trade tales in IPL history.

The blockbuster trade involving Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav between the Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants just weeks prior signalled an aggressive trading window ahead of the upcoming season, and the Yellow Army’s unexpected interest in the star all-rounder follows.

Since the end of the season in May, the IPL trade market has seen a huge surge. A key player trade involving Rishabh Pant and Kuldeep Yadav has been accomplished by the Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Super Giants, which might have a big effect on the tournament’s power dynamics.

After being the most expensive player in IPL history at the 2025 mega auction, Pant accepted a lowered salary of INR 15 crore, which was much less than the INR 27 crore contract he was offered.

For his current contract value of INR 13.50 crore, Kuldeep Yadav was bought by Lucknow. Now, there is more conjecture regarding the franchise’s aspirations to rebuild since CSK entered the Pandya bidding war.

CSK is up against other franchises for Pandya.

In the race to sign Hardik Pandya for the 2027 Indian Premier League, CSK has reportedly entered talks after the Kolkata Knight Riders had already shown themselves to be strong candidates.

But the competition for the best all-around player is by no means a two-horse race. Hardik has drawn interest from seven IPL teams; only Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Sunrisers Hyderabad are said to have not contacted the Mumbai Indians.

CSK had to make quick roster adjustments after finishing the 2026 season in seventh position with six victories from 14 games. In order to rebuild their team for the post-MS Dhoni era, the team sees Pandya as a potential cornerstone acquisition.

No firm deal for Pandya’s services has been struck between any franchise and the Mumbai Indians, despite mounting rumours. Timelines are still unclear, but agreements are being negotiated by both parties. In what seems to be a historic transfer window, CSK will need to take decisive action if they are serious about acquiring one of India’s best T20 stars.
