Andrew Cornish Sacked by Middlesex After Charges Upheld
Middlesex‘s CEO, Andrew Cornish, has been dismissed after an independent disciplinary panel upheld misconduct charges against him. The club revealed in a statement that Cornish left his position as CEO in June.
The dismissal brings an end to a tumultuous process that began months ago with charges regarding his working behaviour.
The Guardian initially reported in November that Cornish had taken leave following a staff complaint about his alleged conduct toward a colleague, which was referred to the Cricket Regulation Authority.
The Regulator is an independent organization that handles disciplinary complaints in English cricket. After investigating the situation, the Regulator charged Cornish with misconduct and referred it to the Cricket Disciplinary Panel, a three-member body that ultimately found against him.
The allegations are not criminal in nature and have not been escalated to police authorities. Cornish has disputed the conclusions and is taking legal action.
What does this signify for the Middlesex leadership?
The former Somerset CEO joined Middlesex in September 2020 as a consultant, assisting on long-term planning, before becoming CEO in 2021.
Andrew Cornish departure is the latest chapter in the club’s turbulent leadership history.
His stay at Somerset ended in 2019 when the club severed ways with him due to financial performance issues. At Middlesex, he presided over a tough period marked by significant fiscal constraints and ongoing legal issues.
Who is taking on the role?
In recent months, the club has chosen two interim CEOs to oversee operations: Mahdi Choudhury, the MCC’s chief operational officer, and Julie Harrington, the former head of British Cycling, who is being considered as a permanent successor.
Harrington, who previously led British Cycling and the British Horseracing Authority, provides extensive experience in sports administration and began her interim job on July 20. On July 29, club members will meet with Harrington at a Members’ Forum.
Middlesex has a long history of winning prestigious cutlery from its founding in 1864. Some of England’s greatest players have represented this club, including Andrew Strauss, Eoin Morgan, and Mark Ramprakash.
