Ajinkya Rahane Set for Test Commentary Debut on Sri Lanka Tour
Ajinkya Rahane, a former Indian captain, will make his Test commentary debut on Sony Sports Network and Sony LIV beginning August 15, 2026, during India’s tour of Sri Lanka. Rahane’s first assignment as a commentator comes after an eighteen-year career in cricket.
Ajinkya Rahane, the former India captain, scored 5,077 runs in 85 Tests, including 12 hundreds and 26 half-centuries. Instead of being at the crease, he will now discuss the format from behind the microphone.
Ajinkya Rahane’s commentary debut: what did he say?
Ajinkya Rahane completed a long and successful career in red-ball cricket before turning to commentary. Having served as India’s Test captain and scored over 5,000 runs in the format, he understands the challenges and decisions that influence a Test match.
“I’m thrilled to be making my Test commentary debut for India’s tour of Sri Lanka on the Sony Sports Network and Sony LIV. Test cricket is the pinnacle of our sport, and after representing India in the format for so many years, it is an honour to now see the game from a fresh perspective.

Sony Sports Network announced Ajinkya Rahane’s involvement on the commentary panel for the India-Sri Lanka series. On August 15, 2026, the broadcaster will air the two-Test series on Sony Sports Network and webcast it on Sony LIV.
