Ajinkya Rahane Praises Kuldeep Yadav’s Development

Ajinkya Rahane has praised Kuldeep Yadav‘s progress as a cricketer, highlighting the left-arm spinner’s attempts to improve over the last few years.

The 38-year-old made his views just one week before the India vs. Sri Lanka Test series kicks off in Galle. Jasprit Bumrah is unavailable for the visit, therefore India will field a four-man spin quartet.

Kuldeep has only played 17 Tests since making his debut in March 2017 at Dharamsala, when he recorded 4-68 in the first innings. He has struggled with inconsistent selection throughout his Test career. Despite having few opportunities, he has taken 79 wickets in total and has demonstrated his talents in white-ball cricket when required.

According to Ajinkya Rahane, Kuldeep’s game has improved over the last several years, but he still lacks consistent opportunities.

He has worked on his air speed. “It is difficult for any player to be in and out of the playing XI because cricket is all about rhythm, whether you are batting or bowling,” Rahane told The Indian Express.

“Kuldeep is an excellent spinner. That is why I supported him in Dharamshala. I knew he was a wicketkeeper. Even tho he was inexperienced at the time, I believed that putting him in that circumstance would be beneficial because I was confidence in his abilities.

You must support your teammates, particularly when they are match winners. It’s not simple to play one test and then sit out the next four or five. “Rhythm is very important, especially for bowlers,” he said.

Kuldeep’s confidence and potential

Ajinkya Rahane emphasised that bowlers may improve their skills and establish their natural rhythm by receiving frequent playing time. The former captain has long supported young players, and his backing of Kuldeep demonstrates that he believes the spinner has what it takes to perform at the highest level.

“Every day, the ball does not come out of your hand in the same manner. By playing continuously, you will eventually find that beat and perform consistently. I’m incredibly pleased with Kuldeep’s progress. He performed admirably in white-ball cricket when given the opportunity. He’s lot more confident now.
