Buttler Predicts Sooryavanshi Will Break His T20 Record
In addition to congratulating India’s youthful phenom Vaibhav Sooryavanshi on eventually breaking his record, England great Jos Buttler reminisced on his extraordinary climb to the top of the men’s T20 cricket run-scoring charts.
Jos Buttler eclipsed former West Indies captain Kieron Pollard to become the all-time leading run-scorer in men’s T20 cricket during the Manchester Super Giants’ The Hundred 2026 match against the Welsh Fire.
In a post-accomplishment speech, Jos Buttler discussed how his circumstances had changed dramatically in recent months. The former England captain admitted that he has recently struggled for runs, but credited his success to his determination.
“It’s funny how rapidly cricket can change. You can be the dog one day and the lamp post the next. A few months back, I was struggling with my form.
And then, in recent weeks, I’ve probably felt like I’m batting as good as I’ve ever done. It has been a lot of fun. You’ve only ever had two alternatives. You either give up or find the strength to keep going and try to regain your form. So those are all the things I’ve been working on.
“I’ve had the energy and determination to get back there, and that’s exactly what I’ve done,” Jos Buttler told Sky Cricket.
The seasoned batter also expressed his delight at being ranked first among some of the greatest T20 players of all time. He did, however, make a light-hearted forecast that 15-year-old Indian prodigy Vaibhav Sooryavanshi will eventually beat his record.
“Yeah it’s really cool actually to think you’ve got the most T20 runs out of everyone,” Buttler replied. “Someone will surpass it one day, and his name is most likely Sooryavanshi.” But, no, this is a proud moment.
Over the last year, Sooryavanshi has emerged as one of the world’s most promising young talents. The daring left-handed hitter has won numerous awards for his explosive strokeplay.
The former West Indies all-rounder was in the opposing dugout during the Manchester Super Giants’ previous encounter against MI London, and Buttler said that he had intended to overtake Pollard.
“Actually, we played against MI London last game, would’ve been nice to get past Polly while he was there, sat in the dugout,” he said.
“Some great names on there, some special players, so yeah, I’m really proud of that.”
With 277 runs in six innings at an astounding average of 92.33 and a strike rate of 178.70, Jos Buttler is presently the competition’s second-highest run scorer. He contributed significantly to the Manchester Super Giants’ remarkable season.
