Gardner Speaks Out On Separation After CA Backing

On August 13, Ashleigh Gardner, the Australian women’s cricket team’s vice captain, issued a message on Instagram Stories regarding her divorce with Monica Wright.

Wright and Gardner married the knot in April 2025. When Wright accused Gardner of cheating on social media in July of this year, claiming that she had a romantic involvement with Australian colleague Georgia Voll during the 2025 Women’s World Cup in India, the feud went public.

Gardner stated that the Cricket Australia board decided to keep her as vice-captain, despite her personal separation from her wife. I am happy that the CA Board has decided to support my ongoing leadership.

In an Instagram Stories post, Gardner stated, “I look forward to playing a strong role as a leader and providing the best possible support for my teammates in the coming season.”

How did Gardner respond to Monica Wright’s request for privacy?

Gardner acknowledged the time they had spent together and expressed regret for the pain caused by their breakup in a section of her speech directed at Wright. She did not go into great detail about the specific claims.

Wright’s social media comments came several weeks before Gardner’s public reaction, and Gardner had moved out of the marital home after the divorce.

‘I am grateful for the time Monica and I had together, and I am sorry for any hurt this has caused. I wish her only happiness and prosperity in the future. I will not make any further comments on this topic at this time and respectfully request that the privacy of those affected be respected,” she stated.

What was Cricket Australia’s reaction?

Cricket Australia responded by citing its current workplace policy, which handles potential conflicts of interest and links across the country. The governing board indicated that steps had been made to protect the integrity of team leadership and procedures, but it did not provide specifics about any internal review.

Gradner, who plays for the Sydney Sixers in the Women’s Big Bash League, received support from the team. Cricket Australia upholds the Respect at Work guideline in all workplace relationships. This involves establishing proper conflict-of-interest management arrangements to support leadership roles and safeguard the integrity of team processes,” the board stated before.
