Abishek Porel Arrested Following Court Order
Bengal’s 23-year-old left-handed wicketkeeper-batsman Abishek Porel was arrested late on Monday, August 10, 2026, following a Calcutta High Court order. The cricket player was arrested in Emami City.
He appeared in 35 IPL games for the Delhi Capitals and was retained by the team for INR 4 crore. On Tuesday, August 11, 2026, he is expected to appear at Chinsurah Court.
The arrest occurred on June 23, 2026, after a female medical student from Karnataka submitted a complaint at the Mogra police station. According to the lawsuit, the woman met Porel in January 2023 and, after pledging to marry her, he took her to his Mankundu flat and initiated a sexual relationship.
The woman also accused him of producing private tapes and threatening her with them. During their relationship, she claimed Porel forcibly imprisoned her, kept her alone, and denied her food.
A court order was issued to arrest him. He was arrested late yesterday nite. On Tuesday, The Hindu quoted Hooghly (Rural) Superintendent of Police Kunar Bhushan Singh as saying, “He will be produced in court today.”
Abishek Porel had disputed and termed the charges false a few months before.
The cricket player stated to the media that he will address the issue after the police investigation was over. “I am playing well now, so things are coming up.”
The IPL has just ended. I am now occupied with my family. Will discuss this when the police investigate. “I have still not spoken with the police,” Abishek Porel stated, denying the allegations.
Abishek Porel was born on October 17, 2002, and has played 116 domestic cricket matches for Bengal. He is the relative of former Punjab Kings pacer Ishan Abishek Porel. He has led his team, the Kolkata Royal Tigers, since the Bengal Pro T20 League’s inception and has previously captained the Bengal team.
