Shardul Reveals Special Connection Behind Rohit’s Lord’s Century Bat

The Indian opener used a bat that his Mumbai teammate Shardul Thakur provided him to play his record-breaking knock. Although Rohit Sharma’s magnificent century against England in the third ODI at Lord’s drew a lot of attention, there is now an intriguing narrative to the bat that he used.

While chasing a challenging 388, Rohit smashed 138 off 110 balls, including 17 fours and five sixes. The veteran opener’s performance helped him make history by being the first Indian batsman to score an ODI century at Lord’s, despite India falling 27 runs short in the three-match series, which England won 2-1.

Shardul stated that Rohit requested additional bats after being impressed with the quality of the willow provided by SS Bats. “I am signed with SS bats and Jatin Sareen (owner) has been very kind to send me some excellent piece of willows.”

Rohit once asked me to give him a pair of bats since he loved them. We all adore him, and he has given us so many joyous moments in the game of cricket that denying him the bat was out of the question. And today I am tremendously thrilled that he hit his historic hundred at Lord’s cricket venue with one of my bats,” Thakur told The Indian Express.

The all-rounder quipped that he indirectly contributed to India’s strong start by providing analysis during the game. “Yes, that is my bat.

(Jokingly) I have given India a start while sitting here inside the comm box,” Shardul remarked.

Rohit was under pressure heading into the series final after scoring 11 and 26 in the first two ODIs, and speculation about his future in ODIs began to circulate. However, the former Indian captain responded aggressively, scoring his 34th ODI century in just 84 deliveries.

He hugged Virat Kohli and thanked the Indian dressing room and his family in the stands after reaching the milestone with a restrained fist pump.

The innings was made even more memorable by the bat’s backstory. Having attended Swami Vivekanand International School under famed coach Dinesh Lad, Rohit and Thakur have a long history together. They were teammates with the Mumbai Indians and later played domestic cricket for them.
