Muzumdar Backs Test Championship After Lord’s Win

Following his team’s resounding 270-run victory over England at Lord’s on Monday, July 13, Amol Muzumdar, head coach of India’s women’s team, has supported the establishment of a Women’s World Test Championship (WTC).

Muzumdar said after India’s historic triumph that Test cricket remains the best version of the game and that an eventual Women’s World Cup could result from the increasing number of matches in the longest format.

Naturally, we would be happy if it occurred. I have consistently argued that Test cricket is the best format available. We are aware of it. Not only the group of leaders, but also the players who are emerging. They also understand that we take great pride in Test cricket,” Amol Muzumdar stated during the news conference following the game.

Due to India’s hectic Test calendar this year, which includes matches against South Africa, England, and Australia, the coach is hopeful that the women’s game is improving.

“This year, we will play three Test matches. We performed here at Lord’s, we performed in Australia, and in December we will play in South Africa. In my opinion, there are three Test matches per year. How come? However, I’m not the one to pass judgement or shed light on it. But if it occurs, I think it’s fantastic,” he continued.

India won easily thanks to a series of spectacular performances, with rookie Kranti Gaud emerging as one of the game’s biggest heroes. After ending with impressive match scores of 7/91, the young bowler was justifiably chosen as Player of the Match.

Amol Muzumdar was very pleased with Gaud’s discipline, which demonstrated her ability to consistently bowl in the correct areas throughout the Test.

“In my opinion, Kranti shown exceptional control when speaking about her. She was directly in the channel, as we refer to it. She had amazing control of her length and line. She was more or less on the good-length range, which we have been talking about for a while, but she never made a mistake on the shorter side—possibly an odd delivery here and there. I believe she has just reaped the benefits of adhering to length, control, and line. I suppose it’s good bowling during a Test match.

Another key element in India’s success was Yastika Bhatia, whose brilliant century in the second innings allowed India to set a challenging aim for England in the fourth innings. The wicketkeeper-batter scored 113, which helped the visitors win easily.

Looking back on Yastika’s innings, Amol Muzumdar commended both the quality of the knock and her capacity to recover from several injury setbacks in the preceding years.

“I believe the knock was unique. It goes without saying that her arrival at Lord’s must be outstanding, one that she and the entire squad would remember. Furthermore, I was quite amazed with her recovery from the injury. She has suffered from some serious injuries over the past few years, but she has persevered and remained loyal to the game despite all of that,” he said.

The Indian women’s team will play a three-match Twenty20 International series against Zimbabwe in October 2026 after this historic triumph.
