Dhruv Jurel outlines calm approach and responsibility in the team
Dhruv Jurel often goes unnoticed, and it’s not only because he works as a wicketkeeper, one of the most underappreciated positions. Batting after Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, he almost offers the audience a break. However, subtracting his 21-ball 50 from Sooryavanshi’s 97 in 29 balls in the Eliminator versus Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), it is clear why the Rajasthan Royals (RR) batted him at No. 3 in the IPL 2026. If you subtract the 147 that the two of them scored in 50 balls, the remaining players have only 96 more (plus extras).
“A 20-ball fifty is typically spectacular. “He has played a very good knock on any surface, and if you can get that, it is always above par in most conditions,” Ambati Rayudu said on ESPNcricinfo TimeOut. I would consider this a match-winning knock in and of itself, even if it appears to be supplementary to what Sooryavanshi achieved. “Because in the end, that knock, I feel is the difference.” When you look at the entire match, Sooryavanshi and Jurel are to blame for the 20-30 runs over par. If you look at the batting, they’ve suffered tremendously.”
Jaiswal batted until the eleventh over and never really got going, hitting 29 in 29 balls against SRH that evening. Perhaps Sooryavanshi didn’t need to, given his current state. However, after Riyan Parag‘s 26 in 12 balls was erased, nothing significant occurred.
Aaron Finch had claimed that Jurel had “the complete game” earlier in the season, but by early May, when RR had lost their initial momentum and were slowing down, Jurel was also contributing to the issue.
However, Dhruv Jurel has 508 runs with a strike rate of 155.35, and RR is currently in Qualifier 2.
If Sooryavanshi’s 680 runs at a strike rate of 242.85 doesn’t seem very outstanding, consider Jaiswal’s figures, which are 426 runs at 153.23.
At the press conference, Dhruv Jurel responded, “I won’t say I have locked anything,” when asked if he would hold the No. 3 spot. “T20 is now the hardest format because it’s not safe, even if you score 240 or 250. I want to be the kind of player who can bat anywhere, at three, five, or seven, read the conditions of the game well, and win. I should make an effort to form a cooperation with Sooryavanshi and Jaiswal whenever they are performing wonderfully.
Avoid attempting to hit from both ends as this could result in a wicket loss. “I don’t want my lower middle order to be batting in the eleventh or twelfth over. I am supposed to keep the ship steady and move it forward.” Building a platform for the lower-middle order is what I have been doing.
Even though Dhruv Jurel is undoubtedly the best wicketkeeper in the IPL, part of his success with the bat can be attributed to the team management’s faith.
“I would say everyone is becoming fearless in terms of batting, and it comes from the support staff, how they back the players,” he stated. “I will play differently if someone tells me I’m going to play 14 matches. Thus, that is the guiding principle. They support you.
