Shashank Singh Opens Up on Moving to Puducherry Due to Limited State Team Support

Shashank Singh has decided to leave Chhattisgarh to represent Puducherry in the 2026-27 domestic season. The 34-year-old all-rounder, who plays for the Punjab Kings in the IPL as vice-captain to Shreyas Iyer, received a no-objection certificate from the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh.

Shashank claimed that certain officials within the state organization were disrespectful, which contributed to his resignation.

Singh cited a lack of clarity and support from his state team as grounds for the decision. He was excluded from the 2026 Chhattisgarh Cricket Premier League without reason, and he was not notified why he was not selected for the state probables fitness camp. In an interview with NDTV, Singh revealed his thoughts on the issue and his plans for the future.

Shashank latest IPL season was marred by form struggles, lost catches, and injury concerns. However, his 2024 IPL season was substantially better, as he hit 354 runs with a strike rate of 164.65.

Shashank showcased his all-round ability in seven matches of the 2024-25 Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring 450 runs and taking 11 wickets. Singh was named the BCCI’s best domestic white-ball all-rounder for 2023-24, in recognition of his services to limited-overs cricket.

Shashank discusses his troubles with fielding during the IPL.

Shashank Singh reflected on his fielding troubles throughout the IPL season, notably after losing catches against the Lucknow Super Giants. He struggled to restore confidence in that element of his game.

He stated that his friends continue to tease him about the dropped catches, but he blamed it on a lack of interest in the process rather than a technical fault.

I want to concentrate on white-ball cricket.

Shashank plans to focus on white-ball formats in the 2026-27 season rather than playing all three formats in domestic cricket. He believes that focussing on one format will help him develop more effectively as a bowler and all-rounder. Singh aspires to be a proper white-ball all-rounder capable of bowling long stints and scoring century in limited-overs cricket.
