Kuldeep’s Spot in Second Test Under Doubt, Says Kaif

Kuldeep’s Spot in Second Test Under Doubt, Says Kaif

Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif has expressed worry about Kuldeep Yadav’s inclusion in India’s playing XI for the second Test. Kaif noticed that Yadav was given brief periods during the first Test and that the lack of an off-spinner was noticeable when left-handers batted.

India won the first Test against Sri Lanka by 165 runs in Galle, with rookie spinner Manav Suthar getting ten wickets and playing an important part in the win. The second Test is slated for August 23-27, 2026, at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo.

India’s lineup has several spin alternatives, including Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar, and Saransh Jain, who provides an off-spin option after Washington Sundar was ruled out due to a hamstring injury.

Kaif is concerned about Kuldeep’s participation in Galle.

Kaif’s evaluation focuses on the tactical balance that India requires in Colombo. With Manav Suthar and Ravindra Jadeja doing well in Galle, he believes the squad should emphasise an off-spinner to counter left-handed batters on a turning field.

Rahane’s reasons for backing Kuldeep Yadav

Former India batsman Ajinkya Rahane responded to Kaif’s assessment by advocating for continued support for Kuldeep Yadav. Rahane emphasised the left-arm spinner’s quality and the importance of maintaining his confidence during a critical period in his career, especially given his recent return to the team.
