Ashwin Urges India to Give Padikkal a Chance Even After Sai’s Return

Ravichandran Ashwin believes Devdutt Padikkal will keep India’s No.3 spot even if Sai Sudharsan recovers from his toe injury. Padikkal secured his spot in the upcoming Test series when Sudharsan was sidelined with a stress fracture incurred during India A’s tour to Sri Lanka. With his recent performances, the left-handed batter has made a persuasive argument for his ongoing selection.

Ravichandran comments come after Padikkal achieved his first Test century against Sri Lanka on August 15, 2026, which also marked India’s 600th Test match. Padikkal scored 167 in the first innings and 44 in the second, showcasing the technical prowess and temperament that Ashwin emphasised.
