Sciver-Brunt to Miss Ireland ODIs as Dean Takes Charge Again

Nat Sciver-Brunt will miss England’s next ODI series against Ireland due to an injury, with Charlie Dean returning as stand-in skipper from the previous summer.

Sciver-Brunt has been dealing with a calf ailment for the majority of the summer, forcing her to miss the first three group matches of the T20 World Cup and a few games in the Hundred before helping Trent Rockets win the women’s championship on Sunday.

She earlier told Cricinfo that she would likely rest for the three matches against Ireland, which begin on September 1.

The ECB revealed on Monday that Sciver-Brunt, Danni Wyatt-Hodge, Sophie Ecclestone, Lauren Bell, and Amy Jones will not play in the series, with head coach Charlotte Edwards deciding to experiment with a “forward-looking” group in order to broaden the playing pool.

It means further leadership experience for Dean, who impressed this summer after leading a series against New Zealand and then the World Cup. She is one of eight cricketers in the 15-person squad that competed in the competition. Alice Capsey will serve as the designated wicketkeeper throughout.

The only uncapped players are seamer Grace Potts and keeper-batsman Kira Chathli, who have both appeared in previous squads this season. Allrounder Charis Pavely is also selected, having made her T20I debut against Ireland in 2024. Ryana MacDonald-Gay returns after 18 months of recuperation from a lower-back injury incurred in 2025.
