Najmul Hossain Shanto Lauds Bangladesh’s Collective Effort After Win

Following the historic triumph, Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto reflected on his team’s overall performance.

Bangladesh defeated Australia by nine wickets in their first Test match on Australian soil on August 16, 2026, in Darwin. Australia scored 198 and 284 in two innings during the August 13-16 encounter, but Bangladesh answered with 426 and 57 for one in the second innings to win.

“I believe the Bangladesh team should be awarded the Player-of-the-Match title. Everyone made some sort of contribution. Of course, Tamim’s first hundred in only his second Test is always memorable.

Miraz has previously delivered similar performances. He was simply terrific with both bat and ball. I was quite proud with how our bottom order performed in this game.

Hassan, Taijul, Taskin, and even Ebadot. We don’t normally get much out of their batting, so this was a significant contribution in this game. “We must give them credit,” said Sadi Shanto, as reported by Cricinfo.

Accepting the challenge under Australian conditions.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, a 28-year-old all-rounder, delivered an excellent effort with both the bat and the ball. In Australia’s second innings, he took numerous wickets, including Beau Webster for five and Alex Carey caught behind for thirty.

Bangladesh’s first-innings total of 426 was also helped by his bat heroics. On day two, Tanzid Hasan scored his first Test century during Bangladesh’s opening innings, boosting the team’s batting performance significantly.

Najmul Hossain understood the gravity of the issue and the calibre of the Australian squad.

He underlined that, rather than being terrified by the visit, Bangladesh welcomed it with a willingness to tackle the challenge. The skipper cited the team’s recent 2-0 Test series victory over Pakistan in May 2026 as a source of confidence.

However, he acknowledged the challenging conditions. Their batting lineup and bowling attack are both world-class. They are an excellent cricket squad. However, before to this tour, we were discussing the lack of opportunities to play in Australia.

We wanted to enjoy performing these activities rather than be concerned about the conditions. We welcomed the challenge, as evidenced by the manner we adapted and enjoyed this Test match,” Najmul Hossain stated.

National recognition of a historic feat.

Senior government officials and cricket board executives congratulated the players on their success, which rippled across Bangladesh.

According to Najmul Hossain , the Home Minister, Prime Minister, and Board President all called to congratulate the team on their historic achievement. The skipper acknowledged the significance of the occasion for the country and expressed gratitude.

“Our honourable prime minister called to congratulate us.” Our board president also spoke with us, and he is quite pleased. We also received a call from the Home Minister. These are exciting times for us, and I feel everyone back home is celebrating our accomplishment.

I prefer to keep myself grounded. It’s my nature. We should surely celebrate this victory. We get these opportunities extremely rarely in our lives, so we should spend the entire day celebrating our victory,” Najmul Hossain said.
