Ravichandran Ashwin: Rohit and Virat Could Coach in IPL

According to Ravichandran Ashwin, two of India’s most well-known cricketers will become instructors after their playing careers conclude.

The renowned Indian player believes that when it comes to teaching, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli would have distinct schedules and techniques. Rohit may take up a position quickly, whilst Kohli may prefer to take a short break from the game first.

Ashwin believes Rohit should take on coaching responsibilities for the Mumbai Indians as soon as he retires from professional cricket.

Ashwin believes that if Rohit departs from international cricket, he may take on coaching duties, much like former India coach Rahul Dravid.

Why should Rohit Sharma become a coach for the Mumbai Indians?

When Rohit decides to retire, Ashwin believes the Mumbai Indians should act quickly to locate him a coaching role. The renowned Indian player underlined Rohit’s achievements as captain and his value to any squad looking to build a strong coaching structure.

If Rohit decides tomorrow that he will not play, the Mumbai Indians should instantly absorb him. A captain who has won five titles and guided India to a World Cup is rare,” Ashwin stated on his YouTube account.

“If he doesn’t want to be head coach because it’s a labour-intensive position, he’ll be ready to take on a role after a one- to two-year hiatus. Rahul (Dravid) bhai took a break and then returned to work. So, I believe they should instantly integrate such cricketers and not let them leave. And knowing the Mumbai Indians, they will not let go of a player with Rohit Sharma’s cognitive abilities,” he continued.

According to Ashwin, Rohit may not have to take on the difficult role of head coach immediately once, but he may do so after a brief vacation from the sport. He contrasted his career path to that of Rahul Dravid, noting that Dravid took a hiatus before returning to work as a coach.

At 39 years old, Rohit Sharma intends to appear in the 2027 ODI World Cup, which might be his final season as a professional cricketer. After retiring from international play, he became a coach.

Virat Kohli’s unique teaching path

Ashwin’s assessment of Rohit and Kohli’s coaching futures is significantly different. In contrast to Rohit, who Ashwin expects to take on a role fairly quickly, the famous Indian believes Kohli may prefer to take a sabbatical after retiring before taking on any coaching duties.

“I don’t believe Virat will be ready to teach immediately. I’m not sure about Virat. “I believe Virat will want to take a break,” Ashwin added.
