Ravindra Jadeja Now Targets Wickets More: Pujara
Ravindra Jadeja has returned to the Indian Test team following his recovery from a tennis elbow injury sustained during the 2026 Indian Premier League.
The all-rounder returns to the squad for the first time since January 2026, having last played a Test match in India’s home series against South Africa in Guwahati in November 2025.
Prior to the first Test at Galle on August 15, India will hold a four-day practice match in Colombo on August 7. The second Test is scheduled for August 23-27 in Colombo.
Prior to the Sri Lanka Test series, Cheteshwar Pujara discussed Jadeja’s growth as a red-ball bowler. According to Pujara, Ravindra Jadeja’s bowling strategy in Test cricket has shifted from limiting runs to taking wickets.
Previously, Ravindra Jadeja focus was on reducing runs, particularly in red-ball cricket. If there was some assistance in the wicket, he would try to take wickets. But if the wicket was unsuitable for bowlers, he focused on limiting the runs.
But now he knows his own strengths and is bowling accordingly. Pujara stated on JioStar that he now aims to take wickets by throwing balls in the line of the stumps. Previously, he was more defensive in his approach.
So you ponder a little more about your game. You use the crease more effectively, try to move wider, and alter your length based on the batter. That mental shift is critical for the game,” the former India batsman said.
Ravindra Jadeja’s new technique to bowling in Test cricket
Ravindra Jadeja new bowling strategy reflects a more proactive approach to Test cricket. The Indian batsman now stresses wicket-taking intent in every delivery rather than being cautious when conditions do not favour rapid bowling.
This edition includes technical aspects like as improved crease use and more intentional length alterations tailored to specific hitters. Pujara stressed that a bowler’s growth in the longest format is dependent on this type of mental recalibration.
