Gambhir’s Coaching Style Draws Criticism

Following a series of underwhelming results across formats, India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, has purportedly faced increased scrutiny. According to a report, certain senior members of the Indian team are dissatisfied with his coaching tactics.

Gambhir’s coaching style has been the subject of private concerns from a few experienced players to former India cricketers and members of the BCCI Apex Council, according to a report by Cric Blogger. Nevertheless, it is reported that the discussions were informal, and no formal complaint was filed.

The report also asserted that Gambhir’s perceived reluctance to accept responsibility for defeats has not been well received by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), which has placed additional pressure on the former India opener.

The report asserted that Gambhir has maintained the BCCI’s trust and is still in command of the Indian team, despite the reported concerns.

India is striving to achieve a turnaround in the Sri Lanka Test series

As part of the ongoing ICC World Test Championship (WTC) 2025-27 cycle, India’s subsequent assignment is a two-match Test series against Sri Lanka. Currently, the visitors are in fifth place in the WTC standings, having achieved four victories, four losses, and one draw.

Gambhir’s tenure in Test cricket has been inconsistent. India’s first-ever defeat by that margin in a home Test series comprising three or more matches occurred in 2024, when they suffered a historic 0-3 home whitewash against New Zealand. They also experienced a 0-2 home series loss to South Africa before achieving a commendable 2-2 draw in England.

Multiple injury setbacks have exacerbated the challenge in Sri Lanka. Jasprit Bumrah, Washington Sundar, Nitish Kumar Reddy, and Harshit Rana, all of whom have been excluded from the series, will be absent.

Gambhir and the Indian team may find the forthcoming Test series to be a significant event as they endeavour to revitalise their World Test Championship campaign, given the mounting pressure that has resulted from their recent losses in Ireland and England in the white-ball formats.
