Shashank Singh Set To Represent Puducherry
Shashank Singh, an Indian batter, has decided to quit Chhattisgarh and will play for Puducherry beginning with the 2026-2027 domestic season.
The 34-year-old said that his long stint with the state team has come to an end after acquiring a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh (CSCS).
Shashank Singh took action after sharing his discontent with how the state association treated him during an injury-related period. The all-rounder alleged that the CSCS shelved him without giving a cause and failed to aid him throughout his recovery.
Shashank Singh clarified his decision to leave Chhattisgarh ahead of the 2017 domestic season. I have obtained the NOC from CSCS and will relocate to Pondicherry beginning with the 2026-27 season.
I sustained major shoulder and finger injuries last season, but the Chhattisgarh State Cricket Sangh did nothing to help me during this time,” Shashank Singh told the Times of India.
Despite contacting the association for clarification, the 34-year-old claimed that he was passed over for the state’s pre-season training camp in Bengaluru and the Chhattisgarh Cricket Premier League 2026.
“After the season, they did not include my name on the list of players for the Chhattisgarh Cricket Premier League 2026, and my name was also missing from the Chhattisgarh squad that travelled to Bengaluru for a pre-season camp.” I questioned why they didn’t include my name. There was no answer,” he explained.
Shashank Singh will focus on white-ball cricket.
Shashank Singh has shown to be one of India’s most consistent white-ball players in recent seasons. He had a terrific season in the 2024-2025 Vijay Hazare Trophy, scoring 450 runs and capturing 11 wickets in only seven games, proving his worth as a real all-rounder.
Furthermore, the seasoned campaigner has decided to forgo playing red-ball cricket and focus only on white-ball formats for the upcoming domestic season.
Shashank Singh continues to play an important role for the Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League. With 350 runs at a strike rate of 153.51, including a brave 61 off only 30 deliveries in the top match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru, he was critical to the team’s progress to the IPL 2025 final.
As vice-captain of the Punjab Kings under Shreyas Iyer, the all-rounder scored 132 runs in nine innings during a quiet IPL 2026 campaign.
