Litton Das Takes Over Bangladesh ODI Leadership

Litton Das, a wicketkeeper-batsman, has been named Bangladesh’s new one-day international captain, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) said.

Litton Das succeeds outstanding all-rounder Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who has led the team since June 2025. The 31-year-old is already Bangladesh’s T20I captain, and his new ODI post will allow him to captain both white-ball teams.

Bangladesh’s most recent ODI was a 2-1 defeat in Zimbabwe, following a historic series victory against Australia at home, the first time they had overcome the mighty Aussies.

Bangladesh have played 24 one-day internationals under Miraz’s captaincy, winning 10 and losing 13. He also led series victories against New Zealand, Pakistan, and the West Indies at home. Bangladesh won four consecutive series under the all-rounder until losing to Zimbabwe, forcing him to step down as captain.

BCB President Tamim Iqbal had stated that the board would pick a single white-ball and red-ball captain rather than a distinct captain for each format.

“We had three captains throughout all three versions. I feel, and the board agrees, that having two captains is the best way ahead. There is nothing wrong with either system, but we believe two captains are more appropriate, one for white-ball cricket and one for red-ball cricket.

We have appointed Litton Das as the white-ball captain and Najmul Hossain Shanto as the red-ball captain.

Towhid Hridoy will be the white-ball vice-captain, while Miraz will remain the red-ball vice-captain.

Furthermore, we believe that having two captains across all three formats makes more sense than having three separate commanders. “In the future, we may even have a single captain for all formats,” Tamim stated during a news conference, as reported by Cricbuzz.

Litton Das had already served as captain of the side in seven ODIs, winning three and losing three, and will now take on the role full-time.
