Yash Thakur Talks About India Idol & LSG Memories
Yash Thakur, India’s most recent call-up, has lauded Jasprit Bumrah and highlighted his early chats with coach Gautam Gambhir while at the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Thakur stated that Bumrah is his favourite bowler in the Indian squad. The 27-year-old says he wants to become a reliable bowler that a captain can call on when needed.
He aims to master the Mumbai Indians star’s famous death bowling technique. Matches are won or lost in the last overs, and I wanted to make a difference for my team. I’ve kept that mindset with me throughout my career.
Whether I’m playing for Vidarbha, India A, or in the IPL, I see death bowling as the most difficult challenge in cricket, and I want to master it. When I can perform under pressure, I will be able to make a real difference.
I greatly appreciate Jasprit Bumrah because he bowls beautifully in all formats and phases of the game. He understands the situation and adjusts accordingly.
I strive to emulate his approach, to be a bowler the captain can rely on at any time, whether it’s the powerplay, middle overs, or the death. “My goal is to be someone who can pick up wickets and win games like Bumrah does for India,” Yash Thakur told JioStar.
When Gambhir was in charge of the LSG team, Thakur reminisced on the advice he received from the current India coach.
The former opening batsman collaborated with the fast bowler for one season before taking over as head coach of the Uttar Pradesh-based squad for two seasons, 2022 and 2023. Thakur collected 13 wickets in his debut season after signing with LSG for INR 45 lakh during the 2023 auction.
Thakur is following Gambhir’s advice to be loyal to his game while under pressure in T20 cricket, regardless of the level at which he plays. He told me back then, “You’ve done well in domestic cricket.”
You know how to get wickets and win games, so don’t change your mindset. The level of cricket will continue to vary, from domestic to IPL to international, but you should not change yourself or your key competencies.

Thakur was one of two pace bowlers picked up for India’s first-ever Twenty20 International series against Zimbabwe. In the first game in Harare, Ashok Sharma, a Gujarat Titans speedster, made his international debut. The 24-year-old went wicketless in his maiden game in blue, despite finishing his allowed four overs.
