BCCI Secretary Clears Air On Rohit Sharma’s ODI Future

According to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, the third ODI between India and England, which will be played on Sunday, July 19 at London’s famous Lord’s Cricket Ground, would not be Rohit Sharma‘s final international match.

Rumours began to swirl on Thursday, July 17, when a report indicated that Rohit had been informed by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection committee that he would not be participating in the next year’s ODI World Cup. According to reports, the selectors wanted to give Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal a long lead at the top of the order.

The study was released at the same time that Rohit Sharma’s ODI performance deteriorated. The 39-year-old has only 11 and 26 goals in the current series against England. He scored 26 runs off 47 balls in the second ODI on Thursday.

Rohit had already retired from Test and Twenty20 international cricket, thus fans were concerned about his future. Saikia’s statement will bring relief to those concerned about Rohit Sharma’s future, which has been widely speculated in the media.

I want to absolutely stress that there has been no such discussion that Rohit will play his final match at Lord’s on Sunday,” Saikia was reported as saying by India. Today: “Rohit is a regular member of the Indian ODI team and will continue to represent the country as long as he is available. In other words, the Lord’s ODI will not be his final match,” the BCCI Secretary stated.

On Sunday, would Rohit Sharma be able to silence his critics?

Prior to the series, the Mumbai batsman had an impressive record in ODI cricket in England. However, in the first two games, things did not go his way. But it doesn’t mean Rohit Sharma can’t return to his prior form on Sunday.

Rohit’s ODI batting record at Lord’s is not particularly encouraging. The veteran hitter has only scored 15 runs, including a duck, in two innings.

Rohit has attempted to give himself some time at the crease during the last two games, but it has not been successful. He might profit more from immediately focusing on bowling, as he has in prior years.
